What is Veganism?

Veganism is a cultural lifestyle where people eat no animal products of any kind, including meat, milk, eggs, or sugar.

I know that you all probably love sugar and candy and that you probably are thinking right now, What is she talking about? Sugar doesn’t have any animal products in it, right? Actually, it does. According to The Times Of India, animal bone char is added to white sugar to give it its color.

There aren’t many vegans - less than 1% of the world - so technically veganism is a culture of its own. The culture of veganism began in the year 1944, first coined by a British woodworker named Donald Watson, and has expanded to 79 million people worldwide!

It can be difficult to be Vegan because many cultures or cuisines celebrate the use of animal products. If you believe in animal rights, you can be Vegan and still fit in with other food cultures using plant-based products.
