The US Will Soon Have No More Panda Bears
For the first time since 1972, there will be no panda bears in the United States. This is because the US’s contract with China, which allowed the United States to borrow China’s pandas, has expired. The Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C. is sending their 3 pandas back to China in December. Zoos in Atlanta, Memphis, and San Diego are also returning their pandas to China. After December, there will only be four pandas in the United States, all in Atlanta. And, in 2024, those bears are also getting sent back to China. The US isn’t the only country losing its panda bears, China is also taking back 2 pandas from the Edinborough Zoo in Britain. Although many people will miss the pandas, it could be for the better.
