For some kids, running a lemonade just isn’t enough. That is why four Middle School students created Blake's Diamonds, which they call “The place to buy, sell, and trade sports cards exclusively at Blake!” The operation has now been shut down by the school, but it was successful while it lasted.
“I would say we have made close to 100 dollars in about 2 weeks of being open,” says Liam Gensler, a 6th grader and co-founder. Their Google Site, “sites.google.com/blakeschool.org/blakesdiamonds”, lists four owners, all 6th graders: Liam Gensler (Founder/CEO), Ari Baylor (Founder/CEO), Everett Moratzka (CEO), and Grayson Ginkel (CMO).
The operation began in late march, when several friends created a website. They have since put posters up throughout the school, in classrooms, on lockers, and in bathrooms.
“We also put money back into the company to buy more product,” says Liam. “In the future as a whole company I believe our goal is to share the love of not just sport cards but just collecting cards in general because it is so fun and besides profiting this is what its really about.”
Ari, another co-founder, mentions that he “want[s] to make money and make a online school market for cards.” As of April 13, Ari reports that the operation has made 4 transactions.
The Google website is extensive, and has business details such as “After your first 2 sales, a 10% Commission applies to each sale. (less than ebay which takes 13%).”
Liam said they are running the operation “just for fun.”
