Securly Interviews
The Blake Bear Bugle staff conducted various interviews concerning Securly. These are some of them:
Description from the Ban Securly Petion
"This is important to me as a student who got this on my computer without my consent... I am very angry because almost everything is blocked..."
"All of my freinds feel that this [Securly petition] is the right course of action, even with our school threatening that if there [was] no secuerly, they would take our laptops. We are not backing down."
Interview with the an anonymous student:
"A VPN is a virtual private network. Most of them aren't really. Most of them are just VPS - verified proxies, and they say they're VPNs, but what they do is they put you on your own private network where... you can't be blocked...or tracked by anybody"
"[Do you think that Blake would ever punish anyone they found using a VPN?] They steal their computers, and then they factory reset them. That's the first time, the next, and they take them for an entire day. The next time it's, I think, a week or two." The last time it's six weeks."
"On securely’s Wikipedia page, it says that they've gotten multiple lawsuits and are known for stealing people's information and selling it to third parties. I tried looking at this with the information and usage monitor on our computers, and the numbers were insane."
More opinions:
"I think there could be other ways. Like, I feel like securely isn't the best way. I don't know, like, what other things there are, but I don't think securely is the right choice."-Jewel Williams
"I get why the school needs to do it, but I kind of wish they wouldn't use specifically Securely because they got sued for selling data to 3rd party users."-Jonah Anderson
"[Do you support how securely has you, um, been more transparent about what you're doing on your computer?] Yes, it is a school device, so I think they should know everything that we're doing on it. "-Jonah Anderson
"It's a good thing because it helps kids, like me, [stay] focused better and focus more, but it could also be a bad thing because it could [block] websites that are like used for learning." -Oscar Flaherty
"Securely, in my opinion, is causing us lots of harm in general, and there's too many ways to get around it." -Dave Rana
