New House Council Structure

This year, the Middle School Administration decided to try a new structure for House Council. When the House Council began in 2023, it had roughly 16 students, each representing their house. They would plan spirit days, help with admissions, and participate in house events.

This year, the structure is different. There are now 53 members of House Council, each on a different committee. This structure will allow the House Council to do much more than it did in previous years. Below is an inside look at what House Council does, as told by its members.

The Hype Squad

“We helped pick some of the spirit week clothing days (Most of our good ideas were rejected. It’s not our fault some of the days were bad.)”

“We try to make the activities more fun.”

Favorite Part:

“Having some sort of decision into our school day.”

The Showrunners

“We gather in Ms. Buchanan’s office, and talk about how the upcoming assembly will work. We discuss our ideas, who’s doing what, and what we will say.”

“We organized the house sorting ceremony, guided students to where they were supposed to go and kept track of everyone’s house.”

“We have done some explaining at assemblies, introducing people and slides and dismissing people from assemblies.”

Favorite Part:

“I like attention, and in my area of house council, sometimes all eyes can be on my group.”

“The showrunners group is really fun… I always leave with a smile on my face as I go to lunch.”

The Think Tank

“We come up with ideas on ways to help improve the community both within and outside of school. We try make sure that everyone’s voice is heard, and work to address issues that arise.”

“We organized a space to allow Blake community members to process things, and we are now working on starting various service projects to help the Annunciation community. “

Favorite part:

“Being able to come up with ideas that have a tangible positive impact and to implement them to help our community.”

The Game Makers

“Me and my companions work on making huge house events for all to enjoy!”

“We have some pretty fun games in the works, but other than that we just sit here brainstorming until we get to pitch something to Ms. Ferguson.”

Favorite part:

“Seeing what ideas others have and building off of those ideas.”

“Meeting… the cool people who I get to work with, and also working on some glamorous games for you guys!”

“Honestly, house council is perfect for people who want to give back to the community, so if you wanna join… that’s a great idea!”
