MS Mock Election
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, students came to the library to cast their votes for a mock election, replicating the national election on the same day. In a week, the Political Roundtable club will tally up the votes. They will present the information in the advisory slides.
“It is a chance to get us hyped about the election, knowing that the majority of this community won't be able to vote because they're not of age,” says Ms. Green, who runs this election and has done so in the past, “My hope is to get people excited about their eventual responsibility. Because if we don't have people voting, we don't really have a stake in our government.”
“People have strong political opinions, and not always do they feel safe or comfortable sharing those publicly,” says Ms. Green. Along with the club, she will make sure the ballots are secretive, with no mention of their name anywhere on the ballot. They will also collect students’ grade, to analyze trends of who they vote for among age groups.
