Memories from Teachers: Mr. LeJeune

Mr. Paterakis

The first time I chaperoned a choir concert! I cried at the beauty of middle school voices together in multiple harmonies. If there is a model for how school or society could be it is a choir under LJ's loving and masterful direction where all voices are valued, heard and carefully nurtured to express themselves and add joy to our world. I always cry at those concerts and will greatly miss my dear friend at school.

Señor Geffen

I will never forget when my Spanish classes were singing karaoke versions of Señor Wooly songs, LJ's choir classes would periodically come in to either cheer us on or even get involved in the singing. My classroom temporarily served as a mini concert hall! It was so much fun to feel that kind of support, and the students truly enjoyed themselves. In addition, the MS choir concerts were always so fun to attend, so it was no coincidence that I gleefully signed up to attend them as a chaperone. LJ's unique blend of kindness, generosity, and humor will leave an indelible mark on our community. He will be missed and I hope the LJ Café continues to be a tradition here.

Ms. Walters

Dan LeJeune is always the consummate host. He makes everyone who enters his orbit feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for. And while, of course, he has produced and directed some of the most impressive middle school concerts I've ever heard in my life, what's most impressive is his ability to make all students (and colleagues) feel truly heard far beyond what comes out in their voice.

Mr. Zelle

LJ is the quintessential Choir Teacher. He is so knowledgeable musically and he has the rare gift of both pushing his students to do their best and supporting their growth at the same time. Mr. Lejeune's contributions to the middle school over the years are too many to collect in this pithy tribute. Let's just say he will be missed by students and teachers alike and we wish him all the best.
