After needing to delay and cancel previous Olympics due to COVID 19 it was only so that everyone was holding their breath, hoping that we would have Olympics this year.

The Olympics this year were not canceled and all of the Olympians so far have certainly delivered to our expectations.

The figure skating qualifications, ending on February 3 2022 set the standard well before the Olympics and promised an amazing Olympics to remember. The main events started on February 5, one day after the fabulous opening ceremony, with the Women's Short Program and Men's Free Skate Final.

Karen Chen was in the Women’s Short Program representing the US and gave us an amazing performance but sadly placed fifth in the short program. Instead, 15 year old crowd favorite Kamila Valaiva placed first in the Women's Short Program, having won by a landslide in her amazingly graceful program, looking beautiful in her purple dress. It came as no surprise that Kamila won first place, but it was still shocking to most how perfect and effortless her performance looked. What really surprised people about that day was the fact that Kamila was caught with sport enhancing chemicals in her body. She is currently NOT disqualified from the Olympic games according to the International Olympic Committee.

That day we also saw the amazing spectacle of american figure skater Nathen Chen winning the Men’s Free Skate Final with his breathtaking performance that was executed perfectly. It got an overall score of 332.6 points. Words just don’t do his performance justice.

Then on Sunday February 6, we get to see the Pairs’ Free Skate, Free Dance, and Women's Free Skate Final. In the Pairs’ Free Skate we have Madison Chock and Evan Bates competing for America with a very theatrical skate performing as an astronaut and extra terrestrial. Their intricate performance won the US a first place in the Pairs' Free Skate with a score of 129.07 points.

All in all the first few days of the Olympics have been very fascinating!
