Commitment to Clubs
Clubs, overall have been enjoyable (for me at least) and I know that they are fun for many more people, but there’s a problem with some of the types of clubs. Clubs like Political Roundtable are fine to miss; there are no group projects in it, and you do not NEED to be there every meeting. But, for some clubs like D&D, you have to be there every meeting. In this article, I will only be talking about the clubs that I am in. I know there are many more, but I do not know exactly what happens in every club, so I can not give accurate facts about them.
In D&D, you are a part of a campaign; sometimes you’re just exploring, but other times you might be in the middle of a battle when you have to end the session. If you're not there for the next session, that might be a problem because everyone is a key part of the game. I’ve noticed that on the first day of club meetings, you get a lot of people since you are just checking it out, but those numbers tend to dwindle as the year goes on. Again, this is fine in some clubs, but in others, not so much.
A great example as well is the Blake Bear Bugle. You have to do a certain job, and if you don't, everyone else has to figure out what to do. If you’re an editor, you have to edit peoples’ articles, but if you aren’t doing that when the newspaper gets published, there might be typos or run-on sentences that someone did not check. No one else checked it because it was supposed to be that person's job.
