Caitlin Clark. You have likely heard the name. Clark just got drafted into the WNBA, yet she is already one of the most impactful players in basketball history. Her mentality is infectious. Her talent is incredible. But those are only two of the various reasons Clark is already successful.

Caitlin Clark spent 4 years playing college basketball, and she was incredible each and every year she played. Even though she didn’t win a national championship in college, she was still one of the (if not the) best players in college basketball history. Clark averaged 28.4 points per game throughout her college career, which is one of the main reasons why she had the most total points in D1 college basketball history. She finished with a remarkable 3,951 points in 4 years of her college career. The next most in D1 college basketball history is 3,667 by Pete Maravich. She beat out the next-best total scorer by nearly 300 points. But this is just how talented she is, which is only a portion of her success.

Her mentality is impressive. Even though she didn’t win her finals appearances, you can tell that she is locked in. I have seen ads of her and her journey and they are genuinely inspiring. Her whole story is. She came right into the college scene and was a superstar. Even going against one of the best college players in history (Paige Bueckers) and her incredible team, Clark carried Iowa to competing the whole game. Clark put the world on notice that women’s basketball was underrated. She did it to the point where every game she played in was a major hit. The NCAA women’s championship had more viewers than the men’s finals. Clark was good in the game, scoring 30 points, but the undefeated Gamecocks were too much for Iowa and Clark.

Regardless of losing the finals, I could never truly state Clark’s legacy for college basketball, women’s basketball, and basketball. She broke records in college by so much you wouldn’t think it was possible. She just got drafted by the Indiana Fever and will join last year’s WNBA 1st overall pick Aliyah Boston, and together they will form an incredible duo. The Fever got the first overall pick, and they got a generational player with it.
