On February 20-21 a cast and crew of about 54 students performed Shrek for the Blake Middle School community. It took around 3 months and countless helping hands to make the show what it was. From early dance rehearsals to last tech rehearsals, this cast and crew was so supportive and wonderful throughout the whole process. “As someone who hasn't done the musical before, this was an amazing experience full of fun memories! The show itself was amazing, rehearsals were full of fun moments, and the people were some of the nicest and funniest I've ever been with."-Rafa (Big bad wolf).
Something that stuck out in rehearsals was the kindness that filled the air, it was infectious. “...I made so many friends… and I had such a good time with [them]...”-Sami Phillips(Snow White). As rehearsals got longer and harder, more bonds and friendships were made, “... we’ve all had an amazing time and [have] made so many bonds…”-Em Lowin (assistant director and choreographer). “Spending time with such an amazing group of people was so exciting and fun.” -Mary Ellen Meek(Knight)
But creating this lively musical was not a hard task. It took many rehearsals stretching all the way back to November. Involving determination, and long after school practices. But in the end, Shrek turned out to be such a fun and energetic performance, that it was definitely worth all the time and effort put into it.
In conclusion, Shrek junior was an amazing experience that strengthened bonds of many students, and created so many countless memories! The performance done by middle school students was amazing, and each cast and crew member brought something special that shaped the show into what it was! But none of it would have been possible without all the teachers and adults that helped.
