Dear Blake Community,

This will be my 5th and last year with the Blake Bear Bugle, and incredibly proud of what we have created. The history of these five years is outlined in a special section in this magazine.

Throughout these years, we have been able to create a quality newspaper, read by hundreds of students ranging from grades 4th through 8th. We have covered stories and voices that otherwise would not have been heard. We have provided opportunities for students to grow skills in journalism, writing, and design.

I have seen the value that the Blake Bear Bugle has added to our middle school community, and I hope that it will continue to have an impact in the years to come.

But our newspaper is run by a small group of dedicated students. In these next few years, when these students leave the middle school, will this newspaper leave as well?

I hope not. I hope that teachers will see the immense value of a middle school newspaper. I hope they will step in when things start slowing down.

That is why I call upon all of you to please, keep this newspaper alive. Because you will miss it when it’s gone.

Thank you,

Gabriel Shen

Editor of the Blake Bear Bugle
