The 2024 presidential election might make history. For the Democrats, Kamala Harris is running, after Joe Biden endorsed her when he dropped out of the race. For the Republican side, former president Donald Trump is running.
Why Did President Biden Drop out of the race?
President Biden's decision to drop out of the race is one that made headlines all over the world. After what the people thought was a bad performance in a debate with Donald Trump, many people were concerned that Biden was too old to continue another term, and Democrats feared that he would lose. So, he decided that it would be best if he dropped out. He endorsed his vice president Kamala Harris. In August, she was officially named the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
How early did voting start?
Although election day already happened, let's go back to when Virginia, Minnesota, and South Dakota were the first states to start early voting on Sept. 20. In Virginia, voters could line up at the polls. In Minnesota and South Dakota, voters could drop off absentee ballots instead of mailing them in person. This year, the presidential election was held on November 5, 2024.
Who are the Vice President Nominees?
For the 2024 presidential election, we have two main vice president nominees. First, Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on August 7, 2024. Second, Donald Trump chose Ohio Governor JD Vance on July 15 2024.
How the Election Process Works
U.S. presidential elections are held every four years on the first Tuesday of November. In the U.S., there are two main parties that voters choose between: Democrats and Republicans.
What Does the Democratic Party Believe in?
The Democratic Party usually supports more progressive issues. Some of it’s most supported issues are higher taxes on the rich, more government services, and more regulations. Those are just some of the things they support.
What Does the Republican Party Believe in?
The Republican Party supports multiple issues, such as, low taxes, high military spending, and fewer regulations. But again, those are not all of their beliefs.
The presidential election is a very important days in America - the day they vote for their new leaders.
